STARKVILLE, Miss.—Jack Edwards, a senior Mississippi State business administration major from Nashville, Tennessee, recently received the Knight Commander’s Medal from Kappa Alpha Order in recognition of his courage and character in the face of adversity.

Edwards, a former Number I, or chapter president, of ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Íø’s Beta Tau chapter, was one of six KA members nationally receiving the prestigious award, joining honorees from chapters at the universities of Maryland and Texas; Auburn and East Carolina universities; and Middle Tennessee State.

In addition to leading ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Íø’s Beta Tau chapter, Edwards serves as a volunteer firefighter with the East Oktibbeha Volunteer Fire Department. Last spring, he and two other ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Íø students received the Oktibbeha County Fire Service Citizen Life Saving Award after assisting an injured person in cardiac arrest.

Edwards is the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Íø chapter’s first recipient since the medal was established in 2007 by the KA Executive Council. He previously served as a facilitator for the Number I’s Leadership Institute, an intensive retreat that educates and empowers such leaders, and the Officer Training Conference, an annual gathering featuring other officers, alumni facilitators and expert speakers. Edwards is providing leadership in a major KA house renovation campaign at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Íø.
